Description: Double-bellied rococo form with molded spreading foot ring, modled and domed hinged lid with floral finial. Original wood handle with C-scrolls and broken S-curves. Upper handle terminal has shell beneath, lower handle terminal has C-scrolls and a spur. The spout is largely vertical, with shell on top and a rocaille ornament at the base.
Provenance/Ownership History: Descended in the Ludlow family, originally from Yonkers, New York, then through the Gould family; about 1900, owned by Susan M. Ludlow Gould; 1909, lent by Susan M. Ludlow Gould to the Hudson-Fulton Exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; sold by the last descendent (south of Boston) to an unknown dealer; May 1996, dealer consigned piece to Carl R. Nordblom auctions; May 1996, purchased at Carl R. Nordblom auctions by Clark N. Pearce on behalf Barbara and Ted Alfond (Weston, MA); 2011, Barbara L.
