Provenance/Ownership History: Probably by the mid-1930s, Josef Mahler (b. 1886 – d. 1963) and Fritzi Forster Mahler (b. 1897 - d. 1990), Vienna and Larchmont, NY [see note 1]; September 27, 1994, posthumous J[osef] M[ahler] collection sale, Wiener Kunstauktionen, Vienna, lot 212, sold to Joseph Koerner, London and Cambridge, MA; 2012, gift of Joseph and Margaret Koerner to the MFA. (Accession Date: April 25, 2012) NOTES: [1] After the Anschluss, or incorporation of Austria into the Third Reich, both Josef and Fritzi Mahler were arrested and many of their assets were confiscated. Their glass collection, however, had been sent to London for safekeeping. The Mahlers recovered the collection after the war and kept it in their Larchmont home.
