Accession number: 2011.2056

Description: Woven natural white and indigo ground with supplementary weft of indigo, red and yellow. Stylized motifs include: crocodile, frog, mudfish, elephant, snake, lizard, and a hooked ceremonial staff.

Provenance/Ownership History: Probably before 1960, purchased in Nigeria and brought to England by an unknown collector. By 2007, purchased at auction in England by Donald Simmonds (b. 1933 – d. 2010), London; 2007, sold by Simmonds to Duncan Clarke, Alfie’s Antique Market, London; 2011, sold by Clarke to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 21, 2011)
