Rock Posters on Film Film Died Young, Stayed Pretty 8:10 — 9:45 pm Friday, July 31, 2009 Remis Auditorium
Died Young, Stayed Pretty by Eileen Yaghoobian (Canada, 2008, 95 min.) A candid look at the underground poster culture in North America, the film examines the creative spirit that drives indie graphic artists to pick through the dregs of America's schizophrenic culture and piece it back together. An intimate look at some of the giants of this modern subculture virtually unknown outside of their own circle, the artists have created a unique visual language for describing the spotty underbelly of western civilization--and they're not shy about throwing it in the face of polite society. Yaghoobian's formal training in filmmaking, 3D animation, theatre, and photography provides a foundation for this intriguing documentary, described as "a candy-colored offering" (Melora Koepke, Hour).
A discussion with the director follows screening.
