Gallery Talk: Shifting Ground: Transformations in Artistic Media in Ancient Greece and Renaissance Italy

Both Ancient Greece and Renaissance Italy witnessed changes in painting techniques that enabled a new and innovative approach to depicting the human form. In this gallery talk led by Martha Clawson explore the ways in which the shift in Ancient Greece from black-figure to red-figure vase painting and the move away from painting with tempera on panel to using oils on canvas during the Italian Renaissance directed the development of the art within these cultures.
