This hand muff made of silk and metallic thread is suspended on an oval-shaped support that is padded and covered with Tyvek. The support holds the muff through the center and also allows the muff to be easily lifted from the box. Foam pieces attached to the sides of the box are cut in the middle to suspend the center support.
A custom-fit box surrounds the object, and padded channels on both sides of the hand muff hold loose ribbons and beads.
The center support, made of corrugated board, padded and wrapped in woven silk, rests in a high-sided custom box.
Notches carved in the foam walls hold the mount in place, ensuring that the lace and embroidery on the hand muff are not compressed on the underside. The hand muff is protected from direct contact because it can be handled by lifting the center support or moving the box.
A Plexiglas rod, one inch in diameter, is used to protect this hand muff made of multiple layers of feathers. Padded and covered in silk, the rod suspends the muff through the center and allows the feathers to be supported but untouched. The ends of the hanging rod slide down into the channels cut in the foam on the high sides of the custom-fit box. The muff may be lifted by pulling upward on the twill tape wrapped around the Plexiglas rod.
This ostrich feather hand muff is mounted in a hanging position, suspended through the middle so all outer edges are untouched. The box has only three sides, left open on the front to allow the muff to be viewed and open on the top so the Plexiglas rod can be lifted.
A padded and silk-covered one-inch Plexiglas rod slides through the middle of the hand muff and rests in notches cut in the foam blocks on both sides of the box.
A Tyvek dust cover with window, held in place with Velcro tabs, is added as an extra layer of protection. Twill tape handles are also looped into the side of the box.
