DescriptionCircular medal of Albrecht Dürer, commemorating the 400th anniversary of his birth.

Obverse: Profile bust of Dürer looking to proper left, a heraldic shield at proper right and Dürer's monogram at proper left, all within beaded circle; inscribed at edge in beaded band "+ALBRECHT·DÜRER·GEB:21:MAI·1471·GEST:6:APRIL·1528".

Reverse: Country scene with city (probably Nuremberg) in background and sun and rays above; inscribed above "ZUM 400 JÄHRIGEN GEDÄCHTNISS" and in exergue "1471-1871".
InscriptionsObverse: Inscribed at edge in beaded band "+ALBRECHT·DÜRER·GEB:21:MAI·1471·GEST:6:APRIL·1528".

Reverse: Inscribed above "ZUM 400 JÄHRIGEN GEDÄCHTNISS" and in exergue "1471-1871".
