terracotta Bozetto. Twisted (armless) draped figure of Abraham strides on rectangular base with small oven and pyre. Angel (one arm) rising from his shoulders.
1954, Art Treasures, Inc., New York; September, 1954, sold by Art Treasures, Inc., to Victor D. Spark, New York [see note 1]; 1958, sold by Spark to the MFA for $1,250. (Accession Date: April 10, 1958)
The sculpture was first offered as a work by Algardi. Spark attested in his correspondence with the MFA that he had sought to acquire the sculpture from its previous owner for ten years. An annotation in Spark's stock book indicates that a "Mr. Berliner" was associated with The Art Treasures, Inc.
