文政4年3月、大坂、角の芝居「梶原平三紅梅靮(かじわらへいぞうこうばいたづな)」。現行題は「梶原平三誉石切(かじわらへいぞうほまれのいしきり)。梶原は石の手水鉢(ちょうずばち)を切って、親娘が持参した刀が名刀であることを保証する。「石切梶原(いしきりかじわら)」の通称で親しまれている有名な場面。 -- 武藤 純子K

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
