Given by the artist to Cyrus Edwin Dallin (b. 1861 - d. 1944), Boston and Arlington, MA [see note 1]. By 1961, Castano Galleries, Boston; 1961, sold by Castano Galleries to the MFA for $100. (Accession date: December 13, 1961)

[1] According to a letter (dated December 13, 1961) in the curatorial object file written by Hanns Swarzenski, which recommends the pieces accession, the sculpture was given as a gift by Barye to Dallin.
