「[先年]三芝居楽屋の図歌川国貞画をもつて出板仕候処ことのほか御評判にあつかり難有仕合奉存候 然ル処右国貞此度上坂仕候ニ付彼地の御みやげに道頓堀芝居楽屋のおもむきを又候続絵にしたゝめ奉入御覧候 この外江戸芝居顔見勢当りふるまひ初午まつり花見天神祭本よみ附たて稽古惣ざらひ等の図追々出板仕候間 不相替御求御評判の程奉希候 はん元西村屋」

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
