Sample of cotton batik with design of Diagonal bands printed alternately with neutral orange and dark blue ground. The dark blue bands are powdered with small star and disc forms. On the neutral orange bands are groups of ovals each containing two small crosses. The designs are printed with neutral orange, light neutral orange and black.


Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 7, 1921
