DescriptionThis assortment of beads contains two large ball beads, one barrel bead, and one wig applique. The wig applique, probably from a coffin, is an oval black faience disc with flat bottom and convex top; many of this type have a glassy glaze. The top has deep parallel ridges and there is a small circular drilled out indentation in the center of the flat base, possibly for attaching with peg or adhesive (see 13.3880-13.3898.) The striped pattern on top is meant to imitate hair.
ProvenanceFrom Egypt, Sheikh Farag SF 114. 1913: Excavated by the Harvard University–Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA by the government of Egypt.
