DescriptionBeneath a projecting egg moulding, a series of two horse chariots race on this fragment of a continuous frieze. At left, partially preserved running horses pull a chariot with an 8 spoked wheel. The charioteer stands rigidly upright, holding the horse’s reins and a whip in his hands. Behind him, another team of horses follows, also pulling a chariot. Their raised front legs emphasize their rapid movement.
