The low cylindrical boxes are formed of seamed sheet with an applied base. The gadrooned foot and base are chased, and there is an applied wire on the foot rim. The covers are formed of chased sheet, with an applied wire rim with chased gadrooning, and a bezel. A molded wire encircles the plain section of the cover. The original engraving on the covers has been removed and hammer marks are visible on the underside.

Inscription

ARMORIALS: engraved on covers of each, the crest of Hobson.

Markings

On underside of each, maker's mark PY (repeated on inside of cover); Britannia; lion's head erased (repeated on inside of cover); date letter G.
