DescriptionThis rectangular bronze horse bridle ornament is decorated in repoussé relief with a figure of a lion bounding to left, symbolizing Apedemak, the lion-headed war god of Meroe.
ProvenanceFrom Meroe, Pyramid Beg. N. 18 (tomb of Queen Amanikhatashan). 1921: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Sudan.
