The boat-shaped basket is raised from sheet. It rests on an elliptical spreading foot, formed of seamed sheet with an applied reeded rim. The rim of the basket is thickened with a reeded wire below which is a wide band of floral bright-cut ornaments and a band of geometric piercing. The reeded bail handle is attached to the basket with circular hinges.

Inscription

ARMORIALS: engraved on the interior, an unidentified crest: (horse's head).
INSCRIPTIONS: engraved just below the crest, RB in script.

Markings

On underside of rim, maker's mark HC (Grimwade 972); lion passant; leopard 's head crowned; date letter p; sovereign's head.
