Silver hollowware

Cann with thickened everted rim with incised line, bulbous body, center point on bottom. Cast molded splayed foot with neat solder. Double scroll handle, vent in scroll under leaf grip, convex disc with angled edge for joining, forked and scroll tip.

Inscription

Engraved script monogram "HMB" in scroll and foliate cartouche on front; scratch weight of "16 - 5" on bottom.

Markings

Marked "[pellet] REVERE" in rectangle at left of upper handle joining. Buhler mark b.

Provenance

According to tradition, said to have been made for a member of the Bowers family, but early history is unconfirmed; given to the Museum in 1951.
