DescriptionEcclesiastical costume. Chasuble front. Italy; cut and voided red velvet with a repeating motif of a pomegranate surrounded by floral sprays within lobate compartments; severely worn. Flanders; orphrey strip, two full and one quarter compartment formed by a repeating ornate architectural vault with a raised-work centerpiece. Top compartment a male saint holding a staff and book (?). Middle compartment Saint Barbara holding a sword and a book and standing on a broken wheel. Polychrome floss silk and metallic yarns; some worn and missing.
