DescriptionElliptical with bulbous sides, raised & gilded rays on body above high molded foot. Gilded shell handles at ends. Openwork cover in radiating pattern with woven work midway; double bulb finial. In black: garlands & flowers on rim & foot; acanthus design band on rims of foot & cover; elliptical medallions on sides & crest of dog above. The central medallion painted in brown with putti among baskets of fruit and flowers, an allegory of Autumn, after an engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1785) after a drawing by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727-1785), from a series published by Pergolesi in 1782.
