DescriptionHandkerchief commemorating the "The Resignation of President Washington". Central oval medallion with a full figure of George Washington holding a scroll. Seven numbered cartouches surround this containing a history of Washington's life and exploits plus a quoted passage from his farewell address (?). Base of medallion blanked, on the right, by military trophies and, on the left, by artifacts of domestic prosperity. "W.G. and Co. Anderston N. Britain" appears at the center bottom. The initials "SS" and "IG" are embroidered on either side of the medallion. Red ink on a cotton ground.
