The sides of the cylindrical box are divided into three openwork panels filled with caryatids against a background of foliage. The removable top is composed of a central oval with the profile bust in low relief of Charles I, facing left, surrounded by a band of pierced foliage and caryatids. The base of the box is similarly designed, with the bust of Henrietta Maria enclosed within the oval. The sides of the box are formed of a seamed sheet, pierced and engraved. The base is a flat disk, pierced and engraved, with the cast bust of Henrietta Maria let in. The cover is similarly constructed, with an applied wire bezel that fits over the sides of the box.
