DescriptionDarned fillet and embroidery. A square divided into 9 pictorial compartments worked in darned linen fillet and edged by linen strips bearing alternating stylized floral and geometric motives embroidered in blue silk yarns, with a small darned fillet square bearing a stylized animal or floral motif in the corner of each compartment. The central design is the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist while an angel looks on with "INRI" repeating for a border. The whole is bordered by a repeating pair of lions flanking a fountain (?) confronted and addressed and edged with bobbin lace dags. Conditon good, some staining.
