DescriptionCover or frontal. Central pictoral medallion. Two figured in neo-classical armour, the foremost holding a lance and an urn, stand before and old man who is lying on a couch. Drapes in the background, armour, weapons and a chest on the floor in the foreground. Polychrome silk and metallic yarns. This is framed by floral tendrils, with large semi-naturalistic blossoms, which fill the flanking field areas; laid metallic yarns, metal strips and polychrome floss silk yarns. All appliquéd to a red velvet ground. Edged by metallic yarn tape with red silk fringe; metallic yarn fringe in center; later additions. Pictoral panel possibly from a different piece than surrounding floral design.
