DescriptionOne of a pair (with 2001.31.1a-b). Oval form resting on four scroll feet ending in stylized shells. Hinged double-scroll handles at either end. The domed cover with a double-scroll handle that can be unscrewed. One side of the cover engraved with the royal arms within the Orver of the Garter, flanked by the initials GR (George II).

No. 1 Struck under base and on interior of cover with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1726-7) and with maker's mark of Paul Crespin under base. No. 2 Struck under base and on cover flange with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter of 1726-7) and with maker's mark of Paul Crespin under base.
