Coverlet. Jacquard (Single) woven coverlet. Warp: blue wool. Weft: red wool. Plumed medallion motifs woven in red wool on blue wool ground; side and lower borders decorated with birds int rees and two story frame house motifs. Inscribed lower left corner: “SOLD BY S. KUTER AND MANUFACTORD (sic) FOR 1839”. Inscribed lower right corner: “MANUFACTORED BY S. KUTER TREXLERTOWN LEHIGH COUNTY”. The inscriptions are typical of Kuder’s 20 known single woven coverlets made between 1835 - 1855. Has been in the donor’s family for generations; exact date of their acquisition unknown.
