A huillier with an oval plateau with scroll rim and feet, engraved on the top with a spiderweb and flowers. Supports two round openwork bottle holders formed of pilasters with consoles and swagged drapery. Between them a support for the caps of two rings and foliage on a bell-shaped base with cluster finial. Two loose stoppers, domed with flutes and cluster finials.
Plateau engraved with 1 and 2, a coat of arms with drapery, and FAIT PAR FT GERMAIN SCULPR ORFRE DU ROYAUX GALLERIES DU LOUVRE A PARIS 1764. "No 2/ 72.5" "159". Bottle holders engraved on underside with 1 [289.1b] or 2 [289.1c] and "159", Bottle caps engraved with "159".
Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lys, 2 grains, FTG, a fleece (Dennis 149): Underside of plateau.
Warden's Mark: 1763-63, a crowned Z (Dennis 26): Underside of plateau and each of the bottle holders.
Charge Mark: for large work, 1762-68, a crowned A with a laurel branch (Dennis 96): Underside of plateau and each of the bottle holders.
Discharge Mark: for work intended for export, 1733(?)-1775, a little cow (Dennis 156): scroll foot of plateau, lower rims of both bottle holders, one cap [1993.289.1e].
Other: Import mark since 1893, an ant in a rectangular shield (Rosenberg IV #5907): Rim of plateau near handle, lower rims of both bottle holders, one cap [289.1e].
