Foundation deposits

This cup has a rounded base, straight sides that narrow towards the top, and a straight, unworked rim. The exterior is treated with a red wash. There are slight traces of white in various areas; it is unclear if these are remnants of white paint/wash or if rather the result of salt efflorescence. It is in battered condition.

Provenance

From Nuri, Pyramid 30 (tomb of a queen?), NW foundation deposit. 1917-1918: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of the Sudan.
