This cup, which is from a foundation deposit, is fashioned of a red-brown clay fabric, some areas of which are fired black. The sides are straight and flare slightly at the top to a wide mouth. It has an irregular flat base. Portions have broken away and are missing, leaving just under half of the upper body and rim intact.
From Meroe (Beg. W), grave466, SE foundation deposit. 1923: excavated by the Harvard University-Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Sudan.
