CHARLES FRANÇOIS DAUBIGNY, geb. 15. Febr. 1817 in Paris, gest. daselbst 19. Febr. 1878. Landschaftsmaler. Zuerst Schüler seines Vaters, eines Miniatumalers, dann von Paul Delaroches. Er strebte darnach ein absolut getreues ungeschminktes Abbild der Natur zu geben, ohne jede poetische Zutat. Trotzdem er die reizlosesten und unscheinbarsten Motive zu diesem Zwecks wählte, strömen doch alle seine Werke eine gewisse Stimmung aus.
