DescriptionVeneered, oblong top, shaped with ogival contour, inset with three tooled aged brown leather panels rimmed with gilded bronze molding. Slightly bombe and valance frieze, having three mock and three working drawers and continuing to angular cabriole legs. All paneled in tulipwood within palissandre banded borders mounted in bronze dore, knee appliques and sabots threaded borders. Marble top.
Marks EHB stamped on underside of top; HOBBS & CO LONDON LEVER on right and left drawer locks; ELSLEY'S GT PORTLAND S LONDON on center drawer lock
Provenance19th century, with Edward Holmes Baldock (dealer; b. 1777 - d. 1845), London. September 15, 1952, sold by H. Blairman and Sons (dealer), London, to Forsyth Wickes (b. 1876 - d. 1964), New York and Newport, RI; 1965, bequest of Forsyth Wickes to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 24, 1965)
