ProvenanceAccording to Everett family tradition, this desk was a gift from John Hancock to his "aide-de-camp" Col. John Boyle (1746-1819) of Boston, Mass; the desk was given to Elizabeth Boyle (d. 1864), possibly at the time of her marriage (January 7, 1811) to Charles Everett (1785-1851); by descent* to Charles Dundas Everett of New Castle, Delaware (b. 1856-1932); 1932, inherited by Charles Everett (1899-1993); 1981, given by Charles Everett of Montchanan, Delaware, to the MFA (Accession date January 13, 1982)

*presumably through General Charles Everett (1881-1879)
