DescriptionThis wooden face is a component of an anthropoid coffin. It is carved of yellow-brown wood. The eyebrows are painted black, as are outlines around the eyes. The eyes themselves are fashioned of black and white inlays. There is some chipping in the nose, lips, and chin.
ProvenanceBy 1836: Robert Hay Collection, Linplum, Scotland; 1863: to his son, Robert James Alexander Hay; 1868-1872: Way Collection, Boston (purchased by Samuel A.
