Commemorative fan for Battle of the Saints, victory of Admiral George B. Rodney over the French forces under Comte de Grasse off Dominica in West Indies. Printed paper leaf painted in brown tones. Obverse: Adm. Rodney and Britannia before stone inscribed “To the Immortal RODNEY”; two putti with wreath, battle flags, soldier on ground left; ships right; two small medallions with vases with classical figures to sides; brass sequin borders, gilt and painted decorative motifs fill out leaf, decorative border, narrow gilt band edging. Reverse: simple sprig center. Eighteen carved and pierced bone sticks, gilt foil backing on guards.
