Obverse: Hercules as youth embarking for or returning from journey center, talking to gathering left, with travellers right; surrounded by classical motifs and flowers; eight small vignettes across top; gilt decoration at top, sides. Reverse: “The Story of Joseph” set in architectural ruins by stream in center, couple right; gilt and painted floral motifs at borders. Carved and pierced ivory sticks with gray painted and gilt details; soldiers on blades; chinoiserie figures, red foil backing on guards. Face encircled by serpent on guards at rivet; blades form floral design when closed.
