Fashion plate depicting three women. Woman on far left faces right in profile wearing a pink dress trimmed with red. Woman in center facing backwards wears elaborately fringed visite over purple trained gown. Woman on far right wears a yellow and white gown with a red floral ornament at bosom and places a white lace veil over her head. Text at top reads: “VOLUME II. FEBRUARY, 1883.” Text at bottom reads: “Pl. 526 / THE SEASON.” Descriptive text in three columns at bottom reads: “Costume with Basque Bodice. The skirt is made of nun’s cloth, trimmed with an embroidered border and pretty Valenciennes lace. The narrow velvet frill at the edge of the skirt matches the bows, also the collar and the inserted pieces on the sleeves. Toilette with Elegant Mantilla. The dress is of velvet with brocaded damask to match. The Mantilla is trimmed with beads and chain-stitch, and finished off with a double row of chenille fringe round the edge, and one at the neck. Toilette with Pointed Bodice. The plisses on the skirt are of tulle of a somewhat lighter shade, the front drapery is formed by a large puff sewn on at the top of the plisse and then turned over; the back is full and bunched out a good deal, the berthe is made of Spanish lace.” At bottom: “Printed by Carl Marquart, Leipzig.”
