Dark gray granite; broken at waist and lower part missing; strongly cut; two horizontal lines of incised hieroglyphs incrusted with white. they comprises the begining of chapter 6 of the Book of the Dead.
The first line reads:
SAbty pn ir ipt ..
The second line reads:
HArwi pn r irt kAt.
Translation:
Oh This Shabty, if (this Osiris) is counted off to ….
this HArwy for carrying out a task …

Presumably from the tomb of Harwa, Theban tomb 37. By 1836: Robert Hay Collection, Linplum, Scotland; 1863: to his son, Robert James Alexander Hay; 1868-1872: Way Collection, Boston (purchased by Samuel A. Way through London dealers Rollin and Feuardent, 27 Haymarket); 1872: given to the MFA by Samuel's son, C. Granville Way.
