This globular black-topped redware jar has high shoulders, a rounded base, and a slightly flaring straight rim. The black top was attained by turning the jar over in the firing process to place the upper portion in an oxygen-reduced atmosphere of burning organics/ash.
From Kerma, Cemetery S, grave 5615. 1915: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of the Sudan.
