DescriptionA goddess must have been represented, although a personification, a nymph, or a temple attendant could have been understood, depending on the function of the figure (if any). The drapery echoes the styles and the vertical dignity of the fifth century B.C. The figure could have been a tomb statuette or even a decorative support for a shelf in a niche or a marble table. The plinth is unusually thick.

What remains is somewhat battered, with light brown discoloration to the surfaces.
ProvenanceFrom Assos (Behramkale, Turkey). 188?: excavated by the Archaeological Institute of America; gift of the Archaeological Institute of America to MFA, January 1884.
