Circular medal commemorating the construction of the British steamship called the “Great Eastern”, by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Obverse: A ship at center with six masts, five steamstacks, and one wheel; inscribed above “GREAT EASTERN” and below “1859”.

Reverse: Inscribed at edge “DESIGNED BY I.K.BRUNEL” and “BUILT BY SCOTT RUSSELL.”, in wreath at edge “LENGTH 692 FEET.” and “BREADTH 83 FEET.”, at center “DEPTH/58 FEET./TONNAGE/23.000”, and below “MERRIAM”.
