DescriptionWooden hangers of varying shapes. On each, a hole is drilled at midpoint. and some have hanging loops.
InscriptionsMost of the hangers in the group bear an inscription. They include:
67.66a: Signed in ink, "Sarah Palmer" and "SP." Also with very faintly scratched inscription: "somebody else is always to blame" underlined, on front, and on back, "X E A X E A X [illegible]"
67.66b: Signed in faded ink, "Henry Frost" (once interpreted as "Nancy" Frost)
67.66c: No inscriptions.
67.66d: Scratched crudely, "ELLEN HAM" with compass marks on end
67.66e: Signed in ink, "Jane Pease" and with another illegible inscription
67.66f: in script, in pencil, "E.H. Thomas"
ProvenancePart of a collection of Shaker materials begun by Ralph E. and Myra T. Tibbetts; the Tibbets collection was inherited by their daughter and augmented by Mr. and Mrs. Russell W. Knight, Marblehead, Massachusetts (Accession Date January 11, 1967)
