DescriptionTerracotta figure of Harpocrates wearing the double crown of Egypt. Head fragment, broken at neck. His hair is arranged in tight curls framing his face, as well as sporting the traditional side knot hanging down the right side of his face. His right index finger rests against his mouth. His eyes are almond shaped with sharply defined eyelids. Mould-made, from a two piece mould and hollow. White coating is preserved in places. Over-fired dark grey Nile silt fabric with abundant fine gold mica, quartz, organics and white inclusions.
ProvenanceFrom Naukratis. 1885: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the EEF by the Egyptian government; October 28, 1885: voted to the MFA at EEF general meeting; sent over February 1886. (Accession date: 1886).
