The 31 illustrations are printed in black, and several are further high-lighted with hand coloring. The standard edition was bound with the illustrations printed on both sides of the leaves.

There is a small label mounted on the verso of the front cover, indicating that the text is after an "old legend," which had appeared in "Mosroosjes," a child's lesson book published by J. B. Wolters, Groningen.
