DescriptionGrasshopper perched on stalk of grain to left. Grasshoppers are often found on small, sometimes comic, intaglios from the Roman period. Their significance is unclear. However grasshoppers and cicadas are featured in ancient literature, particularly in Aesop’s fables and Aristotle’s treatises
