口上に「当四月上旬より仮名手本忠臣蔵操狂言奉入御覧に候処(略)彦三郎義は御馴染御取立被遊候故人尾上菊五郎十三回忌為追善由良之助之大役相勤(略)又大序より衣裳大道具等相改メ(略)五月節句より第十一段目敵討の段新狂言に増補仕」とあり。

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
