DescriptionThis pinkish gray granite fragment is the left side of the head and face of Amenhotep III, wearing the nemes headdress. It comes from a sculpture that stood between the legs of a ram sphinx. There are traces of red, painted guide lines on the left temple in front of and above the ear.
ProvenanceFrom Nubia (Sudan) Gebel Barkal, B 501. Unregistered at time of excavations. 1921: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Sudan.
