DescriptionLength of lampas with gold and silver and polychrome silk brocading. Metallic yarns are both flat and overspun. Bizarre pattern shows asymmetrical arrangement of paired serpentine units comprising scrolls, leaves, parrot-like forms and geometrical ornaments. Wide heavy corded selvedges, yellow-green; both complete. Slightly worn and discolored in small areas. Metallic yarns brilliant.
Per L. Smith, 9/85: Lampas; salmon-colored silk satin ground metallic threads (filé and frisé) bound in a twill pattern, with details brocaded in polychrome silk threads. Warp: salmon (satin), cream (binding design in twill pattern). Weft: green, cream, silver, and gold. 7/8 photography: b/w, color slide.
