Circular medal of Louis XVI (1754-1793), king of France, commemorating the canal from Lyons.

Obverse: Profile bust of Louis XVI looking to proper left; inscribed at edge “LOUIS XVI ROI DE FRANCE ET DE NAVARRE” and under bust “DUVIVIER S.”.

Reverse: Four seat river personifications, two female and two male, holding water cisterns turned on their sides: Rhone, Seine, Saone, and Lyons; inscribed at edge “NOUVELLE JONCTION DES DEUX MERS”, below “DUVIVIER”, and in exergue “CANAL DE LA SAONE/A LYONNE/MDCCLXXXV”.
