Circular medal commissioned by the Grand Duchess of Tuscany as the Accademia di Belle Arti’s triennial prize for sculpture.

Obverse: Profile bust of Michaelangelo looking to proper left; inscribed at edge “MICHAEL PIU CHE MORTAL ANGEL DIVINO.” and under bust “SANTARELLI F”.

Reverse: Interlocking design of three circles made of foliate forms (also found on Michaelangelo’s tomb monument); inscribed at edge “LEVAN DI TERRA AL CIEL NOSTR INTELLITTO” and “MDCCCXII”.
