DescriptionEcclesiastical Costume. Mitre of Urban VIII (Maffeo Barberini). Obverse, St. Mark and lion in a compartment above the coat of arms of Clement VIII surrounded by stylized blossoms on intertwining stems above a panel with stylized symmetrical curling stalks and acanthus leaves. Reverse, Barberini coat of arms in a medallion above arms of Clement VIII surrounded by stylized pomegranates and blossoms above a similar panel. Polychrome silk and metallic yarns, seed pearls and cut glass stones. Lappets bearing stylized pointed blossoms and vines in metallic yarns on red silk ground with metallic yarn fringe. Worn yarns; missing stones and pearls. Possibly made froma Dalmatic. See "Notes on Collection"
